Chelsea have been told to prioritise signing Raheem Sterling over Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, with the latter labelled āoverratedā.
The Bluesā new owner Todd Boehly is considering moves for both of the stars, according to reports, with Chelsea seen as one of a limited number of destinations that could afford either player.
The American billionaire has met with Ronaldoās agent Jorge Mendes, while Paris Saint-Germain are keen to offload high earner Neymar.
But according to former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy, thereās one English star who should be far more important.
Discussing potential signings, the talkSPORT host said: āI actually think that, Iāve said this many many times, I think Neymar is overrated.Ā
āIām not saying heās a bad player, I think heās overrated, thatās my own take on that, Iām not so sure heād fit in at Chelsea.
āRonaldo, thereās a part of me thatās a little bit concerned that itās not going to be a Thomas Tuchel signing, it feels a little bit like a Todd Boehly one where heās come in with the money and heās getting seduced by one of the worldās greatest ever players and heās available.
āAnd then thereās Sterling, which for me makes so much sense, I donāt quite know what heās going to cost but it feels and sounds like itās going to be a decent deal.ā
Despite concrete links to Ronaldo with the Portuguese superstar so far failing to return to training with Manchester United ahead of the new season, some arenāt so sure such a deal will happen.
That includes talkSPORTās transfer guru Alex Crook who doesnāt see United signing a replacement up front, or Chelsea in need of an ageing forward.
Asked whether United boss Erik ten Hag will want to keep the 37-year-old, Crook said: āI think he does, if they let him go they have to have a replacement lined up.Ā
āHe still scored 24 goals last season, he doesnāt have the mobility of Ronaldo first time round when he was at Old Trafford but he still knows how to put the ball in the net and thatās a precious commodity.
āThere arenāt that many number nines out there, Darwin Nunez was a United target earlier in the summer, unless theyāre going to go to Bayern Munich and say you can have Ronaldo and weāll have Robert Lewandowski I donāt see how theyāll replace him.
āA number nine hasnāt been high on Ten Hagās priority list, they sounded out Nunez but he was always going to go to Liverpool.
āThe one forward player he is keen to bring in Antony who is more of a wide forward from Ajax but they want big money and heās not really a Ronaldo replacement.ā
Similarly, Chelsea, who are the leading candidates for Ronaldoās signature, may have their manager in the way.
āI think ultimately Thomas Tuchel will have the final decisions,ā Crook said. āTodd Boehly is leading negotiations but itās my understanding that Tuchel is leading the list of targets.
āTodd Boehly as an owner strikes me as somebody who would want to make a big statement, a Ronaldo or a Neymar, clearly he has held talks with Jorge Mendes, thatās not been denied to me.
āIām not convinced as much as Tuchel is an admirer of Ronaldo that he will push for Ronaldo, my understanding is that Raheem Sterling is his top target and that may happen by the end of the week.ā
