Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell insists their midfield needs ‘fixing’ and new signing Gabriel Jesus requires a ‘big striker’ to complement him.
Mikel Arteta has managed to secure his top transfer target of the summer, landing Jesus from Manchester City in a £45million deal.
The Spaniard is expected to be very active in the transfer market once again as he rebuilds the north London side, with Fabio Vieira already signed from FC Porto.
Backup goalkeeper Matt Turner has also joined, along with Brazilian youngster Marquinos.
But there are solid links to a number of other stars as they battle to improve their squad and target a top four spot in the Premier League.
Ajax have received bids for defender Lisandro Martinez, while Leicester’s Youri Tielemans is a long-term target.
And Campbell has identified the two key areas that need to be targeted if his old side are to get back on track.
“They’ve got to fix the midfield, it needs more goals, it needs more creativity, hence Tielemans,” he said.
“I still think Arsenal need an alternative striker, a big striker, someone who, when teams bank up and it’s not going so well, someone who you could fire crosses in and he can get on the end of it.
“I think Arsenal have missed that change of alternative in the set up and the flexibility of Jesus as well means he could start as a nine or he can play wide, he’s comfortable anywhere.”
