Arsenal legend Ian Wright responded in brilliant fashion after Lord Alan Sugar ripped into coverage of Womenâs Euro 2022.
The former Tottenham owner took issue with the lack of male commentators for the tournament and, just when he thought he could lean on Wright to help make his point, the former striker unleashed a two minute rant on Twitter to hit back.
Wright, who is known for being a huge advocate of womenâs football, had been used as part of Lord Sugarâs argument after he was outed on BBCâs coverage during England 8-0 victory over Norway on Monday night.
âI was pleased to see my old mate Ian Wright was given the opportunity to commentate on the ladies game last night,â the business tycoon said the morning after the game.
âI wonder if my earlier tweet below touched a nerve. Of course BBC sport will say not at all, Ian was already lined up for it.â
At the weekend, Sugar had complained about âALL commentatorsâ on the Womenâs Euro coverage being women, and that menâs football typically had a âsymbolicâ female to âcover broadcasters a***â.
This is despite Wright being a regular part of the BBCâs coverage of the womenâs game, with Sam Matterface and Adrian Durham doing the same for talkSPORT.
And Wright wasnât going to let Sugar get away with name dropping him without a gentle reminder to his âold mateâ.
Sat in his living room, Wright laughed to the camera: âCan everyone stop sending me the Alan Sugar tweet.
âAlan, my friend, rather than you saying âI got it wrongâ, you doubled down on some complete f****ng foolishness.
âSo in your mind you actually thought the BBC phoned me up?â
He continued: âThat says to me your ego is totally out of control. Whereâs the people around you to hug you bro? You need some hugs man.
âLook at you coming on Twitter for attention like this,â he laughed, âItâs laughable, stop doing it to yourself!â
In true Wright style, though, he kept a cool head throughout.
âIn all seriousness, Iâm glad youâre watching,â he added. âAnd the only thing you can find a fault with doesnât even exist.â
He joked: âI hope you enjoy the rest of the tournament. Can you please tweet again so I can work Friday [for the next game]? God bless.â
God bless Ian Wright.
