Chelsea have released their new home shirt for the 2022/23 campaign with a host of men’s and women’s team stars helping out.
Inspired by the club’s former manager, Ted Drake, the new jersey commemorates the innovations he made after arriving in west London in 1952.
One such alteration was changing the club’s nickname from ‘the Pensioners’ to ‘the Blues’.
He was also responsible for introduction of the iconic ‘lion rampant regardant’ to the club’s badge.
Drake also led the club to their first-ever top-flight league title in 1955, something that Thomas Tuchel’s side will hoping to use as inspiration this term.
Manufactured by Nike, the new Chelsea jersey is deep blue with a white collar that is emblazoned with the heraldic lion features further on the Henley neckline in a turquoise pattern.
First-team stars such as Mason Mount, Trevoh Chalobah and Cesar Azpilicueta were all seen modeling the new shirt in Chelsea’s official release video, while Reece James, Kai Havertz and Tuchel also featured in some of the club’s newly released training gear.
Christian Pulisic was also spotted, despite ongoing links with a move away.
From the women’s team, Lauren James, Fran Kirby, Milly Bright and Sam Kerr were all seen modeling the smart new shirt.
With the new shirt confirmed, attention is firmly turning to the new season and Chelsea’s hopes of mounting a genuine challenge for the Premier League title.
With the likes of Raheem Sterling, Matthijs de Ligt and Cristiano Ronaldo all heavily linked with the club, it could be a very exciting season for Tuchel’s side.
